Chairman Dick Cook has put 38 hard years of work into Walt Disney Studios, but all of that came to an end Friday, when Cook apparently left his job abruptly. There is only speculation circling the internet currently on why, but regardless of reason, the man is gone. So what does that mean for the House of Mouse? Apparently, it means a great deal for the future of Disney's biggest current film franchise, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN.

As we have told you in the past, Disney has been hard at work bringing their beloved PIRATES franchise back to the big screen with a fourth installment. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have both already bowed out of the sequel, but the PIRATES' most recognized star, Johnny Depp, has been attached all along. One of the main reasons Depp has been so ready to do a fourth film was due to his healthy relationship with Dick Cook. Now that Cook is absent from Disney, the future for Depp in the fourth installation of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN is seeming uncertain. Cook is the reason Depp became involved in the franchise in the first place. Sure, he has already signed a deal to star in the film, but unhappy actors, especially the ones that carry as much weight as Depp, tend to have a whole lot of influence on the project's well-being. Here is what Depp has to say about his relationship with Cook, courtesy of the LA Times.

"He's instantly trustworthy. And you generally don't meet people at the studios you trust... He's a rare beast... He is the utmost gentleman, so he made the call himself. He said, 'I'd like you to hear it from me before you hear it from someone else or read it... He said today was my last day. He didn't give me a reason."

Cook is also the man that first supported Depp's controversial interpretation of the Keith Richards-like persona.

"When things went a little sideways on the first PIRATES movie and others at the studio were less than enthusiastic about my interpretation of the character, Dick was there from the first moment. He trusted me."

So now that Cook is gone from Disney, Depp is less than happy about his future with them, "There's a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment." But Depp is remaining positive concerning his future with the former chairman, "He will be somewhere and I will always look forward to working with him. I consider Dick a friend inside an insane system. He's someone I understand and I think he understands me."

So, I still expect PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES to carry forward, and I still expect Depp to remain active, but I wonder if something will seem off when the film hits theaters?
