DIRTY DANCING remake happening
It appears there is going to be a DIRTY DANCING remake. While a remake seems completely unnecessary, it’s hard to get really angry or care one way or the other about the project, since it’s not like the original is some great or sacred film, it’s [email protected]#king DIRTY DANCING.
The only detail known about the project at this time is that the script will be written by Julia Dahl, who wrote an episode for PARTY FIVE and two for THE WEST WING. Dahl also wrote the screenplay for UPTOWN GIRLS, starring Brittany Murphy.
You have got to wonder why a studio (in this case, Lionsgate) would think a DIRTY DANCING remake would be a great idea, given that the original was a movie that was so popular because of the time it was made. Also, a sequel to DIRTY DANCING came out a few years ago, and did terribly. Both of these factors make me think a DIRTY DANCING remake won’t be a very lucrative film Lionsgate, and just a bad move altogether.
