Disney buys distribution rights for THE AVENGERS, IRON MAN 3 from Paramount; IRON MAN 3 release date set
Ever wonder what $115 million could buy you?
Apparently it can buy you the distribution rights to two of the film world’s biggest upcoming franchise projects.
According to Deadline, Disney has nabbed up the distribution rights to the upcoming films THE AVENGERS and IRON MAN 3 from Paramount, for that rather low asking price. At this point, the money will be paid by the release dates of the respective releases, with May 4, 2012 being set for THE AVENGERS and May 3, 2013 set for IRON MAN 3.
This is an interesting turn for Disney, who we all had previously thought would have to wait for the rights to lapse to truly take advantage of their relatively recent $4 billion buyout of the backing studio, Marvel. Paramount apparently still has the rights to THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA, but it looks as though Disney has decided that they may as well spend a few dollars to get much more back in the end.
