Disney looking to late high school drama teacher Lynn Shaw for their next inspirational film
The house of mouse has just found their next true life story of inspiration.
According to Variety, producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have hired writer Susannah Grant (ERIN BROCKOVICH) to write a yet-to-be-titled film about Texas high school theater teacher, Lynn Shaw.
Shaw, who died in August 2009 from breast cancer, formed one of the nation’s best theater programs at J.J. Pearce High School out of a truly defunct drama department. The film will be made through their shingle Millar/Gough Ink, which is currently developing a film entitled HOVER CAR RACER for Disney as well.
The inspiration for the film came from a Nightline piece, which found Shaw’s students performing a musical about her life.
Personally, while I wasn’t a fan of THE BLIND SIDE, I do think there is a place for this style of film. I really think this could be a well-crafted project, and given the right cast, could be more than a worthwhile venture for the studio.
