While THE DARK TOWER may in fact be taking the multi-platform buzz in the TV/film world, apparently Disney wants a bit of this pie.

Deadline has revealed that Disney will be picking up the rights to a pitch entitled THE RUNNER, which is being looked at for a huge sci-fi franchise. Penned by Dave Andron, the story will be set in 2027 and on an Earth that “has been rendered uninhabitable due to a devastating attack. A group of survivors living in the Rocky Mountains have discovered a way to send a man back in time. While the volunteer departs under the guise of trying to stop the devastating attack, he has an ulterior motive: to save the love of his life.”

Currently being set up as a Marc Forster directing vehicle, as well as mobile games, video games, graphic novels, and yes, a TV series.

Personally, I love this idea, but I also don’t think that it will work every time. The DARK TOWER idea seems perfect, as the story is big and broad enough to fit that model, but this one definitely remains to be seen. That all said, I do have some really high hopes for this. It’s about time we get some really expansive sci-fi.
