dont be afraid of the dark

One of the many casualties of last year’s Miramax sale, the Guillermo Del Toro produced project, DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, has finally found a release date.

Deadline is reporting that FilmDistrict (set to release films like Nicolas Winding Refn’s DRIVE and James Wan’s INSIDIOUS later this year), will be releasing the film in theaters on August 12.

The film, directed by Troy Nixey, stars Guy Pearce (who is set to have one hell of a career revival over the next couple of years) and Katie Holmes, and follows a family who run into some truly creepy monsters after moving into their new home. A remake of the 1973 TV movie, the film’s been waiting in the wings for some time now, particularly after its really solid showing at Comic-Con last year, and the great teaser trailer we got following that. The film looks strong as all hell, and with a great cast to boot, it’s great to see this genuinely interesting project get a release date.
