Drew Barrymore

Who would have ever thought that Drew Barrymore would be one of the more intriguing actors-turned-directors that the film world has seen in quite some time.

WHIP IT, her directorial debut, was an absolutely stellar comedy, with one of the better soundtracks this side of a Tarantino film, and now, she’s turning that project into absolute gold.

THRis reporting that Barrymore will helm HEIST SOCIETY, featuring a script from WHIP IT scribe Shauna Cross. The film is based on a novel from Ally Carter, and “follows a young woman named Katarina Bishop who hails from an extended family of cat burglars and master thieves. The girl leaves her illicit life behind, but when her father is the prime suspect in the case of a mobster’s missing art collection, she assembles a crew to track down the art and steal it back.” Sounds like OCEAN’S 11 meets Gossip Girl. Count me in.

The film will follow Barrymore’s upcoming project, HOW TO BE SINGLE, and sounds rather interesting. I’m not quite sure what to make of the film’s premise, but I do like the idea of a female style heist picture. Barrymore really gets great performances out of her cast, so given the right cast here, this could be one hell of a project.
