Drew Pearce penning IRON MAN 3, not director Shane Black

Despite early reports that IRON MAN 3 director Shane Black would likely be penning the script for the film, it appears that the job has gone to someone else. Drew Pearce will now take on scripting duties and, while it's disappointing that Black will not be writing his own script, Pearce has a great pedigree to recommend him for the job.

Pearce penned the script for the buzzed-about but still-unmade RUNAWAYS, Marvel's "project based on the cult comic by Lost writer Brian K. Vaughan about children of super villains who try to use their evil powers for heroic purposes." In addition to that big superhero entry on his resume, Pearce also created the British television show No Heroics, which apparently chronicled a superhero bar that didn't allow its patrons to flex their powers while drinking. The writer clearly has an interest in the superheroic and the irreverent, a good mix for an IRON MAN film.

It's also being reported that Pearce's script will be "from scratch" and that he will "work closely" with helmer Black.

IRON MAN 3 opens on May 3, 2013.
