Dwayne Johnson joins G.I. JOE: COBRA STRIKES
With kick-ass and perfectly cast turns in films like FASTER and most recently FAST FIVE, Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. The Rock, has made it very clear that he wants to be known as a true action star. And now, you can toss yet another film onto that fire.
Deadline is reporting that Johnson will star as Roadblock in the upcoming sequel, G.I. JOE: COBRA STRIKES. The film, helmed by Jon Chu, will be the second film in the JOE franchise, following up Stephen Sommers’ relatively large hit G.I. JOE. The film will also take the spot of STAR TREK 2 on Paramount’s 2012 slate, as that film will now likely be missing its release in June.
A machine gunner and cook, Roadblock is definitely an intriguing choice for the actor, and one that really makes this writer interested in the upcoming sequel. I actually didn’t have a huge problem with the first feature, simply finding the film to be mediocre, but a bit enjoyable. I definitely think that Johnson’s addition to the film will be one that makes this a really fun flick. Hopefully it can live up to that potential.
