Eli Roth still looking to helm ENDANGERED SPECIES as his next project
It’s been five years since HOSTEL II, and while we’ve seen a tad bit of director Eli Roth in smaller form (such as NATION’S PRIDE within Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS), it’s about damn time that he gets back behind the camera for a feature.
In speaking with Screen Daily (via STYD), Roth revealed that he’s still hoping to shoot his sci-fi apocalyptic thriller ENDANGERED SPECIES as his next film. The film is set to have a budget roughly set around $40-60 million, and has seen comparisons to films like TRANSFORMERS and CLOVERFIELD but doesn’t feature “aliens or robots or a virus – it’s a little more grounded. But when people hear it they are going to be like ‘that’s going to be insane.’”
He’s next set to produces the films AFTERSHOCK (directed by Nicolas Lopez), RZA’s THE MAN WITH THE IRON FIST, and THE CLOWN, all of which sound quite interesting. Personally, while Roth seems to be a “love him or hate him” type of filmmaker, he’s one that I really dig. HOSTEL is an underrated film, and CABIN FEVER is a really solid bit of horror. The idea of him doing an apocalypse story is absolutely intriguing, and one that I hope finally gets some footing.
