Elijah Wood gets to have a dog friend in the trailer for “Wilfred”

I'm so jealous of Elijah Wood. He has loads of money, he got play Frodo Baggins, I bet he is really good friends with Eugene Hutz (Golgol Bordello), and no one has ever pulled the "I've never slept" look off so well.

FX is premiering a new show in 2011, staring Wood as a suicidal perfectionist who meets the girl of his dreams; the only wrench is that she has a man-dog that everyone believes is a REAL dog. Wilfred is an American remake of a series from Australia sharing the same name. The concept is enough to hook me, but this TV spot puts the show into the heavy anticipation realm. Check it out after the jump.

You're my best friend indeed! The original incarnation of Wilfred came under some fire for depicting lots of bestiality and the like. Here in the states we love us some person on animal action, so it should all be copacetic. It's fun to see Wood take on a TV role and one that seems like so much fun.

I always get the feeling Wood really enjoys what he does and it comes through in his performances. Look for more to come from Wilfred as the new year edges closer.

Thanks to Vulture for the first look.
