Dennis Hopper

Unfortunately, covering the news is sometimes a somber task.  Today is one of those days.

With the recent passing of Gary Coleman, it was this writer's hope that we wouldn't have to write about another celebrity's passing any time soon, but my heart sank upon hearing the news that one of the most notable rebels in the film industry, Dennis Hopper, lost his battle with prostate cancer today at 8:15 am PDT.

Hopper's resume is nothing short of brilliant, with a career that includes everything from major hits, indie flicks, and TV.  The man has over 200 credited roles on IMDB, thanks in part to the success that came from 1969's EASY RIDER, which he directed and co-wrote along with Peter Fonda and Terry Southern.

While EASY RIDER may have helped launch Hopper into stardom, it was his uncanny ability to get inside of a part, no matter how big or small, and make moments on film that few movie fans could ever forget.  Some terrifying, some insightful, and others that were endearing.

I'm including some of my favorite moments in Dennis Hopper's career (be warned, some are NSFW), although there's no way I could get to them all, so please, respond with links to some of your favorites, if I wasn't able to get to them.  Let's celebrate this time by honoring all the hard work Mr. Hopper did, while he was able.

SUPER MARIO BROS.

I tried desperately to find his scene in JESUS' SON, which may be my favorite of all, but unfortunately it was nowhere to be found.

Which scenes do you think of when you think Dennis Hopper?

My favorite performance of Hopper's was Mad Dog Morgan which I think Troma picked up recently. Loved his artwork as well. Even though the counterculture rightfully takes ownership of what Hopper symbolized, I think he was just as much a part of this generation which proves how rare a talent he was.
