As the Cannes Film Festival kicks off next week, we are slowly starting to get our first look at the films that will be making their much talked about debuts there. And now, it’s Lee Daniels’ turn.

Rope Of Silicon nabbed the first (or as shown in the clip itself, the fourth) clip to the director’s next film, THE PAPERBOY, starring Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack. Check out the clip after the jump.

Based on a novel by Pete Dexter, the film will bow at the festival this year, and based on this clip, it looks like it may very well be Daniels’ best film to date.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of Daniels as a director, as both SHADOWBOXER and PRECIOUS left me feeling either cold or underwhelmed, the primary flaw being Daniels’ direction itself. However, this cast is really impressive, with the female side of things being led by Nicole Kidman, and the film’s story, which follows a Death Row inmate trying to get his name cleared, is really intriguing. Toss in love from the Croisette, and this could be quite the film.

What do you think?
