With this year’s Super Bowl set for this Sunday, not only will audiences be getting their first look at the Marvel patriarch known as Captain America in action thanks to the upcoming film’s Super Bowl TV spot, but they’ll also see his right hand man, Bucky.

Well, thanks to the LA Times, we have a sneak peek at the character prior to the upcoming sporting event.

In the first look photo, we have a good look at Sebastian Stan in the role of Bucky Barnes, and I must say, he looks really great. Apparently, this Bucky won’t be like any we’ve seen prior, at least according to director Joe Johnston.

Johnston told the outlet:

“We took some liberties with the relationship between the two guys…In our story, Bucky is already in the service, he’s already joined up and is being sent overseas while Steve is still struggling to get in the army. That’s different than what you may have read in the comics. It adds a nuance to the relationship that pays off later. They’re closer in age, too — they’re virtually the same age. That’s not the case at all if you go back to the old comics.”

Personally, not only do I genuinely think that Stan is a really great actor, and fits perfectly in the role of Bucky, but the idea of taking a new outlook on the role would really add a new life to this project. In the rather dense world of comic book films that will hit this year, CAPTAIN AMERICA continues to really impress. Here’s to hoping it will be able to stick the landing later this year.
