First look at Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in THE IRON LADY
Honestly, is there a role Meryl Streep can’t knock out of the ball park?
Thanks to Deadline, we have our first look at Streep as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and it’s one hell of a photo.
The film, entitled THE IRON LADY, stars Streep, Jim Broadbent, Olivia Colman, Alexandra Roach, Anthony Head, Angus Wright, Richard E. Grant, Julian Wadham, Roger Allam, and Michael Pennington. Based on a script by Abi Morgan, THE IRON LADY sees Streep’s MAMMA MIA director Phyllida Lloyd back in the director’s chair, and while that itself is not all that appealing, this photo does really bode well for the film.
Now, the film is still in need of a U.S. distributor, but with Fox backing the film in the UK, it shouldn’t be long until this one finds a suitor, willing to give it the late season Oscar push that it will likely get. Streep looks great here, so despite the worry brought on by Lloyd’s involvement, this is definitely one of the films that will likely play a relatively big role in this year’s Oscar season.
