First look at Wayne Wang’s SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN
While Hugh Jackman has helped make this film far more noticeable than it would have otherwise, Wayne Wang’s upcoming SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN is looking to be one hell of a film, A-list cameo or not.
Thanks to The Playlist, we have the first look at the upcoming film, and it looks like a mighty fine film from the director of SMOKE and BLUE IN THE FACE.
The film stars Gianna Jun and Li Bing Bing, and will, as mentioned above, feature a cameo from the beloved Hugh Jackman. Based on a novel by Lisa See, the film will look at the relationship shared by two girls in 19th-Century China, who “are matched by laotong – a bonded friendship that is regarded as having ties as strong or stronger than that of marriage.”
Personally, while this photo isn’t too much to really look at, the film does sound like a really interesting little film. The idea of taking a period based look at this type of relationship could prove to be quite a worthwhile venture for Wang, who is quite a varied and expansive filmmaker.
