With the NHL season in full swing now, MTV has apparently gotten the first photos from the upcoming hockey comedy, GOON, and I have to say, it looks great.

The film was penned by Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg, and stars Baruchel, Seann William Scott, Alison Pill, and Liev Schrieber; it follows a bouncer who joins a hockey team. It’s directed by FUBAR director Michael Dowse, and with shooting currently going on in Winnipeg, the film is looking to hit theaters sometime next year.

Personally, while I’m not a huge fan of sports films, I am definitely in the camp that thinks this could be this generation's SLAPSHOT, which is promising. We need a good, raunchy sports comedy, and while it's hard to take anything like that away from these photos, it definitely doesn’t feel like your run-of-the-mill sports comedy. Compared to a “funnier RAGING BULL,” this film is definitely one that I can’t wait to check out.

What do you think?
