Ryan Gosling is set to turn some heads this year; he stars in the star-studded romantic comedy CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE, the Cannes Award-winning action flick DRIVE, and George Clooney’s political thriller THE IDES OF MARCH.

The last of those films stands as a huge possibility for the actor to pick up some awards recognition, and thanks to RopeofSilicon, we have the first official photo of Gosling in THE IDES OF MARCH; you can check that out after the break. Based on Beau Willimon’s play Farragut North, the film will see Gosling’s character get wrapped up in a serious political scandal.

The photo doesn’t reveal much really, but we can see that the film will boast some nice visual moments, as indicated by the poster of Clooney’s character; that poster looks an awful lot like an Obama poster, doesn’t it? Of course, that makes perfect sense for a political film.

THE IDES OF MARCH kicks off the Venice Film Festival later this year and hits theaters in the U.S. on October 7.
