First trailer for Sundance break-out MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE
There was no other film at Sundance that knocked the wind out of me like T. Sean Durkin's stunning MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE did. Featuring a breakthrough performance from relative newcomer Elizabeth Olsen, along with par-for-the-course excellent work from John Hawkes, the film racked up a number of accolades at the festival, including the Dramatic Directing Award for Durkin. The film follows Olsen's (titular?) character as she attempts to re-acclimate to "normal life" after busting out of a dangerous cult - a dangerous cult that's not so ready to let her go.
Back in January, I described the film as such: "T. Sean Durkin’s MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE is, without a doubt, the most cohesively constructed film at Sundance this year – a film made sublime by virtue of the quality of every single element of it." You can read my entire review HERE, and it's all just as glowing as that. Today, we get the first trailer for the film. This piece of marketing could have been twenty seconds of Olsen running, and I'd still implore you to watch it. It's, thankfully, a fair bit better than that, however. Head on over to Apple to check out the first trailer for this Sundance stunner.
The film will be in limited release on October 7, thanks to Fox Searchlight. Back your backpack and run to theater for it now.
