Have you ever thought, "gee, I really wish someone would remake that TV movie that starred Kellie Martin about that girl who was abducted and found her real family and it was really awkward, but with a hot male lead and a lot of running and action"? No? Oh, then ABDUCTION is not for you. If, however, you have thought that, here you go, it's your new favorite movie.

In ABDUCTION, young Lautner stars as Nathan, a teen who stumbles upon what appears to be his own picture on a missing childrens' website. It's a little strange, especially considering that Nathan has a pretty great home life. But, if it's true, who are these people he calls his parents? Before we can get into that emotional stuff, some shady government types show up and some stuff blows up and there are guns and running and then things get really out of control. To be fair, ABDUCTION has an interesting pedigree - it's directed by John Singleton (BOYZ N THE HOOD, FOUR BROTHERS), so it may actually have some real grit to it. The cast is also relatively intriguing - besides Lautner, we've got Lily Collins (the new Snow White), along with Alfred Molina, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello, and Sigourney Weaver. Check out the first trailer for ABDUCTION after the break.

ABDUCTION is Lautner's first big starring role in between TWILIGHT films, and it definitely appears that Hollywood is banking on his ability to carry an action film, even one that may skew primarily to teens. Can he do it? Lautner has certainly proven that he can bulk up and deliver on the basics of physical performance, but is he ready for some real heavy lifting? I'm not so sure.

However, beyond ABDUCTION and the BREAKING DAWN films, Lautner is set to star in INCARCERON, a film that just may prove his box office worth more so than ABDUCTION. Like the TWILIGHT SAGA, INCARCERON is based on a YA book series, but it also mixes in elements of action, with smidges of thriller and sci-fi. That strikes me as the best wheelhouse for the young actor at this point - engaging a built-in audience with the type of film he's known for, not attempting to take on a standalone actioner.

Of course, I could be wrong, Team Jacob could come out in full force and shut me up come this fall.

ABDUCTION will open on September 23.
