The Eagle

Focus Features has just released the first trailer for the epic THE EAGLE, starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, and Donald Sutherland. Originally known as THE EAGLE OF THE NINTH, it's directed by Kevin MacDonald, and based off the book by Rosemary Sutcliff. For the official plot summary and trailer, keep reading after the break.

The official plot summary from Focus Features:

"In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila (Tatum) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth. Accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia - to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father's memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth."

Set for release on February 25, 2011, this is just the first trailer to debut for the film. This could be the film that finally allows people to admit liking Channing Tatum as an actor. I've enjoyed him in his previous roles in SHE'S THE MAN, STEP UP, and the highly underrated STOP-LOSS. However, currently his fans seem to be squarely in the young and female category. This dramatic role could bring him around to be taken more seriously as an actor.

Watch the trailer below and judge for yourself.
