Focus Features has just announced that production will begin this week on SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WOLRD, the film was written and will be helmed by Lorene Scafaria in her directorial debut, and starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. The "pre-apocalyptic" film has also added a number of members to its cast, heightening my anticipation of the project to some new and unexpected levels.

In alphabetical order, Focus has rounded out the cast with Connie Britton, Adam Brody, Roger Aaron Brown, Tonita Castro, Rob Corddry, Melinda Dillon, Rob Huebel, Gillian Jacobs, Derek Luke, Melanie Lynskey, T.J. Miller, Mark Moses, Patton Oswalt, William Petersen, Lindsay Sloane, and Bob Stephenson. You'll notice a number of comedic talent (most notably Oswalt, Corddry, Huebel, and Miller) joining the ranks here, pretty much guaranteeing that END OF THE WORLD will be one of those light-hearted end of the world romps not so often seen.

The film is "set in a too-near future," and it "explores what people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. Can one man find his greatest love at the worst possible time? As the respective journeys of Dodge (Mr. Carell) and Penny (Ms. Knightley) converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten."

This film will not be like von Trier's MELANCHOLIA.
