Former “Dancing with the Stars” champion Julianne Hough to star in ROCK OF AGES
Adam Shankman is culling from the reality TV dancing world again. Julianne Hough, two-time winner of Dancing with the Stars, has nabbed the lead in his ROCK OF AGES.
She’ll star as the young girl from the Midwest who moves to Hollywood chasing her dreams of stardom. She becomes involved with the rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise), but loses everything and is forced to work her way back up.
While Hough is known mostly for her work on Dancing with the Stars, having danced with Apolo Ohno and Formula One driver Helio Castroneves, she’s also had a #1 record on Billboard’s country music charts. Given her dancing and singing background, she’s a strong choice for the young lead. Hopefully her musical skills will pick up the slack from the non-musical leads like Tom Cruise.
With a choreographer set and this new lead, expect the casting updates to be coming fast and furious. Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand are rumored to join the cast, which so far consists of Hough, Cruise, and Mary J. Blige.
