20th Century Fox really hopes that moviegoers don’t mind their films a bit more primal.

With RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES hitting theaters later this summer, the studio is set to take on one of the most iconic primates in all of cinema, this time, thanks to their animation branch.

Deadline is reporting that Fox Animation has tapped Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to pen a “modern day twist” on the iconic story of KING KONG. The film will obviously be animated, and this time, told from Kong’s point of view.

The film is being produced by Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps shingle, and with Magalhaes and Snow recently hitting the Black List for their script MURDER OF A CAT, this is definitely an intriguing, if odd, project. Personally, I’m not at all a fan of the idea of remaking KING KONG, particularly so recently after the last remake, but with this being animated, it may prove to be something worthwhile. Yeah, probably not.
