One of 2011’s most anticipated releases has finally found itself a home, after a long time waiting in the wings.

Box Office Mojo has revealed that Alexander Payne’s long-talked about adaptation of the Kaui Hart Hemmings novel, The Descendants, will be released on Decemember 16. Penned by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, the film follows the story of a man, Matt King, who along with his daughters, goes on the hunt for the man with whom his wife has been sleeping with. A boating accident has left her injured, and him on a tear to find who has torn his marriage apart.

Starring George Clooney, the film also features Beau Bridges, Matthew Lillard, Judy Greer, Robert Forster, Mary Birdsong, Nick Krause, Shailene Woodley, and Amara Miller, and has apparently gotten quite a good bit of buzz from those who have seen the cut of the film currently in the can.

Now, this likely means that the film will sadly be skipping out on this year’s Cannes Film Festival, unless Searchlight is really going to hold onto the film for a while, making it go through the year long festival rounds prior to its release. Personally, this is a film that I absolutely can’t wait to check out, as not only does the film have a really fantastic premise, but Payne and Clooney are two of the best at what they do.
