Fox wins war over ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER
20th Century Fox has recently become the victor in a war of bids for the rights to ABRAHAM LINCOLN:VAMPIRE HUNTER. As you may know, this is a film adaptation of the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, who also wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Tim Burton is set to produce with Timur Bekmambetov, with Grahame-Smith penning the script, which is exciting due to the fact that he is the author of the novel as well; Grahame-Smith can give us the best film adaptation, in my opinion.
With a 69 million dollar budget, Fox plans on getting this film done for a 2012 release, oh and in 3D as well. Apparently, Fox went balls out to land this adaptation - parking spaces that said “Parking for Vampire Hunters Only, Park at your own risk" were created, huge banners hung in the parking lots, and bloody footprints led participants to the meeting. To top it all off, silver bullets and bloody axes were placed around the offices. I'm guessing that they think that this film is going to make bank for them.
The book synopsis is as follows:
"Seth Grahame-Smith inserts vampires into Abraham Lincoln’s life. Lincoln learns at an early age that his mother was killed by a supernatural predator. This provokes his bloody but curiously undocumented lifelong vendetta against vampires and their slave-owning allies. The author’s decision to reduce slavery to a slant of the vampires is unfortunate bordering on repellent, but at least it does distract the reader from the central question of why the president never saw fit to inform the public of the supernatural menace."
Pre-production is under way; as always, stick with GATW for more news to come.
