Francis Lawrence says I AM LEGEND prequel is dead in the sunlight but CONSTANTINE sequel may not be

In my circle, I seem to be one of the only people who has an affinity for I AM LEGEND (outside of its nonsensical use of CGI over practical effects, which is a pill I still have a hard time swallowing when I watch the film). But even I wouldn't want to see a prequel...part of the first film's charm is that we only see the aftermath, leaving the prior events up to imagine outside of a few well-chosen, well-placed flashbacks.

However, Hollywood thinks one was necessary, despite the fact that the film did not fare well with critics or the box office alike. But according to director Francis Lawrence, he simply stated for MTV "No, I don't think that's ever going to happen." Something tells me there aren't going to be too many teary eyes over this one.

Lawrence did, however, play around with the idea of a sequel to another one of his films; 2005's CONSTANTINE starring Keanu Reeves. This one also happens to be another one I have a fondness for, and that I am not alone on as Lawrence notes the film has gained somewhat of a cult following over the years after its release. The director says that they've tried to figure out ideas for a sequel, and if it does indeed get made, he'd like to go a little darker and scarier this time around, avoiding that notorious "PG-13/R no man's land."

Head on over to MTV to see what Lawrence himself had to say about it.
