Never let it be said that Hollywood doesn’t like to double back on itself when it comes to interesting projects.

With both Summit and DreamWorks working on films revolving around the life and times of one Harry Houdini, apparently Sony now wants in on this magical little pie.

Variety has revealed that Francis Lawrence is currently in talks to helm a Houdini biopic for the studio, which has been described as “high-profile” and will, to no one’s shock, retain a period setting. This isn’t the first time the studio’s tried to get this project off the ground, with the studio even going as far as to tap director Paul Verhoeven to helm a potential biopic.

Now, while I’m not a huge fan of I AM LEGEND, CONSTATINE is a likable piece of visual filmmaking, and WATER FOR ELEPHANTS looks like a really solid entry into the filmmaker’s canon. A visually gifted filmmaker, Lawrence could really do wonders with a film like this. Given the right writing team, this could be one hell of a film.
