Talk about a shocking turn of events.

In one hell of an exclusive, The Playlist reveals that the much talked about sequel to THE HUNGER GAMES, the impending CATCHING FIRE adaptation, will  now be going it without one Gary Ross.  The film, set to shoot this fall, will not be directed by the HUNGER GAMES helmer.

The outlet reveals that while a bit of it may be due to a money issue, it’s more the fact that Ross doesn’t feel like spending a few more years within this universe, one he’s already been steeped in since taking the gig on the original.

Personally, I think this is great news all around.  I think Ross is a filmmaker with a lot of talent, and one that will definitely continue to make intriguing films.  And now, a fresh face will get a shot to take on this universe, one that could use a good revamping after the mediocrity that was THE HUNGER GAMES.  Great news, all around guys.
