THE WHEELER BOYS Still

Netflix is arguably the best system of renting movies out there.  Giving you the option of streaming a movie (or TV show) straight to your television - and now the iPad and iPhone - it's making it tough for other competitors to keep up.  It's no surprise that the innovative company launched a film competition called "FIND Your Voice."  They had over 2,000 applications from all over the planet and they chose Philip G. Flores as their winner. On a prize budget of $350,000 and a year to make the film, Flores has completed his film and it will premiere on Netflix for 48 hours starting June 25th at 8 PM PST. Also, if you're attending the LAFF (where our West Coast gals Kate Erbland and Allison Loring are at), you can catch it on the big screen.

Flores' film is called THE WHEELER BOYS and stars Portia Doubleday (YOUTH IN REVOLT), Bill Campbell (Once and Again), Lorenzo James Henrie, Alex Frost, Haley Ramm and Alex Russell.  I just watched the trailer (which features the song Shampoo Suicide from Broken Social Scene) and I can tell this one's going to be rough. The story follows an "awkward high school freshman Ted, nicknamed Bug, (LORENZO JAMES HENRIE) lives with his abusive, paralyzed father Ron (BILLY CAMPBELL) and his older brother Truck (ALEX FROST). Truck and his friends call themselves 'The Kings' – high school royalty – and Ted, seeking a connection to his idolized brother, soon becomes initiated into their world."

I've embedded an exclusive clip called "Shooting" after the break - check it out.  Also, don't forget to watch the film FREE starting at 8:00pm PT on Friday, June 25 and ending at 8:00pm PT on www.netflix.com/findyourvoice.  This can be watched by Netflix and non-Netflix users!  Help GATW support great indie filmmaking and watch this movie when it premieres!

Official Synopsis:
THE WHEELER BOYS is a bittersweet coming-of-age story of respect won and lost and the truth behind illusions. Smart, awkward high school freshman Ted, nicknamed Bug, (LORENZO JAMES HENRIE) lives with his abusive, paralyzed father Ron (BILLY CAMPBELL) and his older brother Truck (ALEX FROST). Truck and his friends call themselves "The Kings" - high school royalty - and Ted, seeking a connection to his idolized brother, soon becomes initiated into their world.

The Kings' have a secret contest to have sex with the most freshman girls and Ted pledges to participate. Ted's confidence and swagger grows with each passed Kings challenge, from getting freshman girls to attend parties, to keeping silent when he witnesses a fight. But when he is asked to go against his moral principles, his impressions about the true nature of the Kings begins to unravel. When the corruption of the Kings, and Truck, comes to light, the brothers must confront each other and what they have become.

Kenney, and executive produced by Pepito L. Flores, Antonio Kaw and Tony Carlucci, THE WHEELER BOYS stars Lorenzo James Henrie, Alex Frost, Portia Doubleday, Haley Ramm, Alex Russell and Billy Campbell.
