Gavin Hood to helm ENDER’S GAME; Kurtzman and Orci writing
It was the best of news stories, it was the worst of news stories.
That’s the way one feels when hearing this little bit of news, which has hit thanks to one Roberto Orci and his Twitter feed.
According to the writer (and hat tip goes to The Film Stage), he and writing bud Alex Kurtzman have not only penned a screenplay adapting Orson Scott Card’s iconic novel, Ender’s Game, but that Gavin Hood will be helming the film, with Oddlot backing the project.
Now, Kurtzman and Orci on the project sounds like a match made in sci-fi heaven, but for those who may not remember the name of Gavin Hood, he’s the brilliant filmmaker behind such masterpieces as X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE and RENDITION.
All joking aside, the addition of Hood to this project does in fact leave me quite worried about the film, great writing core or not. I love Kurtzman and Orci as writers, but for a project as hotly anticipated as this one, Gavin Hood is not quite the choice one would have hoped to get the gig.
That said, at least the project seems to be coming to fruition. More on this as it comes.
