GEARS OF WAR has officially stalled
Well, for those who enjoy violent, post-apocalyptic action stories, you may want to get the tissues ready, ’cause this is not the best of news.
The LA Times is reporting that the long talked about adaptation of the massively successful video game series, Gears of War, is now completely stalled, with filmmaker Len Wiseman (who has been attached to the project since 2008) leaving the film.
The game follows Marcus Fenix, an ex-con turned soldier, who leads a group of soldiers on a battle to save a planet known as Sera, who are falling victim to attacks from a race of beings known as the Locust. The script was originally written by Chris Morgan, and has since seen revisions by Billy Ray.
While that all sounds rather intriguing, we’ve seen video game adaptations given to talented people, and the outcome has more often than not been of low quality. Just look at HITMAN. The talent was there, and instead we got what is best described as a John Woo film made by an elementary school student. There are solid films like SILENT HILL, but they are the exception to the rule that video game movies more often than not crappy.
Wiseman will direct a new thriller called NOCTURNE, so at this point; it’s back to square one for this hotly anticipated project.
