Grab Bag: Joel Kinnaman joins LOLA VERSUS; trailer for CARS spin-off PLANES hits
Following the announcement that the rather superb AMC show The Killing had been renewed, one of the show’s stars, Joel Kinnaman, has found himself a brand new gig.
THR is reporting that the actor has nabbed a lead in the upcoming film, LOLA VERSUS, currently being set up at Fox Searchlight. The film will star Greta Gerwig as a woman “who is dumped just weeks before her wedding and embarks on a series of encounters ranging from the horrible to the embarrassing to the enlightening as she navigates life as a single woman.” Zoe Jones and Hamish Linklater co-star.
Jones wrote the film’s script along with Daryl Wein, who will be helming the film, and Kinnaman will play the man who breaks off the wedding. As a fan of his work on The Killing, I think Kinnaman is a really talented young actor, and one who should be able to shine perfectly in a story like this. The cast and crew here are impeccable, making this one film I definitely can’t wait to check out.
And finally, in much less interesting news, Disney has released the teaser for their upcoming direct-to-DVD release, PLANES, and for those who may not know, it is indeed a spin-off from their CARS franchise. It looks like absolute garbage, but for those hell bent on being placed under suicide watch, go right ahead and watch it. Or head below the trailer to watch what the film should look like. (Thanks to /Film for the heads up).
