Grab Bag: Posters for COLUMBIANA and THE DESCENDANTS hit; Vincent Cassel starring in DOBERMANN 2

With Cannes directly in our rearview mirrors, it’s time to turn our eyes once again to a few films that will be blazing up the screen later this year, and one that may make 2012 an interesting year.

First up, new posters for both the upcoming Alexander Payne film, THE DESCENDANTS, and the Zoe Saldana film, COLUMBIANA have hit, both of which are relatively uninspired.

I actually quite dig then poster for the latter, which finds Saldana starring as Cataleya Restrepo, an assassin who must hunt down the killers behind the murder of her parents when she was just a child.  The film is a neo-sequel to THE PROFESSIONAL, Luc Besson’s beloved film, and looks as though it could be quite an interesting little revenge thriller. COLUMBIANA hits on August 26. THE DESCENDANTS however, sounds like a far more interesting film, despite the film’s poster, which is absolutely uninteresting.  The Clooney-starring film follows the story of a man who goes on a road trip with his daughters to find the man with whom his wife has been having an affair.  The poster itself is dreadfully dull, but this is still very much one of 2011’s most interesting films.

And finally, on the films-yet-to-be-shot front, Screen Daily is reporting that Vincent Cassel is in talks to join the upcoming sequel to Jan Kounen’s film, DOBERMANN.  The film, based on a series of novels from Joel Houssin, originally starred Cassel as a gang leader, and will find him again taking on the role for this sequel, subtitled ARM WRESTLE.  As a fan of Cassel and the crime genre as a whole, this is more than compelling news.  Color me interested.
