Talk about an early present.

Originally slated to bow on June 2, the first trailer (well, at least intentionally released one) for the upcoming David Fincher-directed THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO has hit, and while it’s a bit more work-friendly than the much talked-about leaked red-band trailer, it is no less amazing.

For all intents and purposes a retooling of the red-band trailer, minus nudity, this spot is basically a series of very, very brief shots strung together with Karen O and Trent Reznor’s awe-inspiring take on Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” and is an absolutely beautiful teaser. Check it out after the break.

The film stars Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, Robin Wright, and Christopher Plummer, and hits on December 21. As a fan of everyone involved here, this teaser is just what one needs to really wet the old appetite for what should be a perfect project for Fincher to take on. Oozing his sense of style and high definition filmmaking, DRAGON TATTOO looks and feels like the long lost love child of something like SE7EN and ZODIAC, and for that, I couldn’t be more excited.

It’s odd, when I had first heard they were remaking this film for American/English speaking release, I was a bit peeved. When I heard Fincher was apart of it, I was even a bit more upset and scratching my head going “but why would he remake an already almost perfect film?”.

-Now I get it. I see it.Since I work at a small independent movie theatre that showed all three LISBETH films as they were released to us, here, I would have long conversations with fans of the books films – all of us little upset and confused why anyone felt the need to fix what’s not broken. Yet, ever the faithful film nerd, I was still able to hold high-hopes for one of my favorite film directors. Excited, nervous to see what Fincher was really capable of doing, since he’d basically have to make it totally his own for me to understand this “re-vision” decision.

I admit, I was one of the people that ate up the red-band “leaked” trailer, watching it over and over and over and over (….you get the idea) again. I’m so damn excited for this to be released. And it is no secret to many of my friends, how much the original DRAGON TATTOO became one of my favorite foreign films. Fincher, don’t let me down, though I don’t think you possibly could.

p.s. Trent Reznor and Karen O should get married and birth a ton of songs together. Just sayin’…
