The adaptation of DC Comics' GREEN LANTERN has officially been given the green light by Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. The film will star Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, a pilot who inherits a ring that gives him superpowers.

The information was released yesterday via the blog of visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas. "GREEN LANTERN got the official green light today," she posted. "And not a second too soon — only 10 weeks out from shooting!"

There has been much speculation as to who would be involved in the making of this film. A quick search in the GATW archives shows many posts concerning casting rumors and even one that claims Quentin Tarantino was offered the opportunity to direct the film before the script was even written. We now know that CASINO ROYALE director Martin Campbell has been tasked to helm the project.

So we know that Ryan Reynolds will play Hal Jordan for sure and we can anticipate more casting rumors and confirmations to with production starting so soon. For now, we'll just have to wait patiently.

The GREEN LANTERN movie is due to be released June 17, 2011.
