Greta Gerwig to star in LOLA VERSUS; Orlando Bloom in talks
After becoming something of an icon within the mumblecore film universe, Greta Gerwig has since become a romantic interest in such films as ARTHUR and GREENBERG, and has now nabbed herself yet another brand new role.
Variety is reporting that Gerwig is set to star in the upcoming Daryl Wein romantic comedy, LOLA VERSUS. The film is currently being looked at by Fox Searchlight, who are in final talks to release the film, and the outlet is also reporting that Orlando Bloom is in talks to co-star with Gerwig in the film. Zoe Lister-Jones will co-star as well. Lister-Jones also penned the film’s screenplay with Wein.
The film will follow a woman who is dumped, only weeks prior to her wedding, by her college fling. She then goes on a self-searching journey to find out who and where she is in this world prior to turning 30.
While I do genuinely love everyone involved here (sans Bloom), I can’t help but think that this is the most trite and cliché plot one could really become a part of. I’m more than positive that Gerwig will do a wonderful job, but at this point, it just is a project that’s really hard to get all that jazzed about. That said, Gerwig’s involvement is music to this writer’s ears, so count me in.
