Van Sant and Hopper

Henry Hopper, son of Dennis Hopper, has joined the cast of Gus Van Sant's latest film, formerly known as RESTLESS. This film is full of the progeny of Hollywood icons, including Schulyer Fisk, the daughter of Sissy Spacek.  Fisk's previous work includes the indie comedy I'M REED FISH.

The young Hopper, whose prior acting credits include a role in the 1996 drama KISS & TELL, plays a boy dealing with the death of his parents. Hopper plays opposite Mia Wasikowska, of Tim Burton’s upcoming ALICE IN WONDERLAND.  The film is described as  a “complex tale of a teenage boy and girl who share a preoccupation with mortality."

The cast also includes Ryo Kase, who was in the "Interior Design" segment of TOKYO! and Clint Eastwood's LETTERS TO IWO JIMA, as well as HBO's "Hung." Kase plays the ghost of a Japanese kamikaze pilot who haunts Hopper's character. Chin Han, who played Lau in THE DARK KNIGHT, will play a doctor that treats Wasikowska's character and Jane Adams will play Hopper's aunt.

Ron Howard, his daughter Bryce Dallas Howard, and Brian Grazer are producing the film, which began production today in Portland, Oregon. Van Sant's DRUGSTORE COWBOY and MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO were also shot there.

The younger Howard's film school friend, Jason Lew, penned the script. Howard says, "it captures the profoundly defining turning point of a young person's life with stark realism, irreverent humor and intense emotion."
