Hailee Steinfeld attached to SLEEPING BEAUTY spec
To no one’s shock, following her wonderful turn in last year’s TRUE GRIT, culminating in an Oscar nomination, actress Hailee Steinfeld has found herself yet another project to call her own.
Deadline has revealed that the actress is currently attached to a new spec package, entitled SLEEPING BEAUTY. The film is a revisionist take on the iconic fairytale, penned by Lindsay Devlin.
This new version is apparently “told from her point of view as she enters the dream world and has to find her way out.” This project joins a cavalcade of fairy tale projects currently in the works, ranging from three separate SNOW WHITE projects, OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, and even PETER PAN. This will play an interesting counterpoint to Disney’s upcoming MALEFICENT, a film looking at Sleeping Beauty from the viewpoint of the villain.
Personally, I can’t wait to see what the young actress has up her sleeve as a follow-up to GRIT, as that performance is not only technically great, but holds such a sense of confidence, that she seems far beyond her years. Don’t expect this one to be waiting in the wings for all that long.
