HALF-BLOOD PRINCE will be a full-blooded success
I'm sure there was no question about whether or not HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE would be a success, but with the announcement earlier that the film broke the midnight showing record, I'm positive the new numbers that are being released will come as a shock to absolutely no one.
Variety is now reporting that the sixth installment of the HARRY POTTER franchise grossed about $58.4 million in its first full day in wide release. Add that to the $22.2 million it made at the midnight showings and you've got a total of nearly $81 million bucks before the weekend even gets here.
Most experts are forecasting that the movie will gross about $100-150 million over the weekend. I'm no expert in this, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it closer to the realm of $175 million, to possibly even $200 million. I saw it yesterday afternoon and absolutely loved it. In fact, I just might go see it again tonight and for a third time tomorrow. That leads me to believe that there will not only be those who are seeing it for the first time, but also millions of other people who are watching it again.
