HARRY POTTER breaks midnight record

The economy might be in the crapper, but people still love going to the movies. Box office records are being broken left and right this summer, first with TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN and now with HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, which grossed $22.2 million just in midnight showings! That beats the previous midnight record holder, THE DARK KNIGHT, by more than $4 million.

The box office numbers were probably helped by Warner Bros.' decision last fall to delay the film a few months until the summer. I was at a midnight screening last night and you could feel the pent up fanboy demand for a Potter fix (myself included). The movie has been described by some critics as this year's DARK KNIGHT, and whether that's true or not, it's off to a dynamite start. If you haven't already, head on over to Kate's review and give us your own review of Harry's 6th year at Hogwarts in the comments section.
