Apparently, while it’s been moving at a nearly stagnant pace, there are wheels turning behind the scenes that will hopefully culminate in the release of Ari Folman’s WALTZ WITH BASHIR follow-up, THE CONGRESS.

The Playlist reports that Harvey Keitel, Danny Huston, and Paul Giamatti have all joined the film, and join Robin Wright and Kodi Smit-McPhee in Folman’s take on Stanislaw Lem’s short story, The Futurological Congress.

The film follows “an aging, out-of-work actress (Wright) who accepts one last job so she can make ends meet to care for her disabled son" (we presume McPhee). The twist? A major studio will scan will her image and likeness and use it as they fit, essentially making her irrevelent and unhireable for any future projects. And the consequences of her decision affect in her ways she didn’t see coming.

CONGRESS has been in the works for some time now, even having some footage released by the filmmaker himself, but has since been snagged somewhere in production. BASHIR was a fantastic film from Folman, so hopefully this new rush of news will ultiamtely lead to the film hitting theaters. No release dates have been announced yet though, so at this point, it still may be quite some time.
