UPDATED: Has MAN OF STEEL found its second villain?
UPDATE: Variety has confirmed that Traue will be playing super-villainess, Faora.
As pre-production of MAN OF STEEL is well underway, casting announcements will come pouring out over the next month or so. A few weeks ago we were blessed with the fantastic news that the brilliant Michael Shannon will be facing off against Superman (played by Henry Cavill) as General Zod, a role made famous by Terence Stamp. Well, today, we get word that General Zod may have his Ursa.
Deadline is reporting that German actress Antje Traue is in talks to join MAN OF STEEL, possibly as the second of Zod's villainous trio, made popular in SUPERMAN II. Ursa was a badass bitch who fried snakes with her eyes and beat a redneck in arm-wrestling - a girl gone dangerous. Despite the ugly-looking '80s-appropriate suits, these were my favorite SUPERMAN foes; they had all his strengths and none of his compassion.
I met Traue at Comic-Con two years ago and believe she will easily fit this bill. She's beautiful and tough, which Sarah Douglas defined as Ursa in SUPERMAN II. I would have zero complaints if she got confirmed for this.
If this is confirmed soon, all we have left to complete the gang is Non. Who do you think would work for this role? My vote goes to Tyler Mane, who does a fine job at destroying the world without saying a word.
