Has Paul Thomas Anderson found funding for THE MASTER and INHERENT VICE?
Apparently, being a billionaire doesn’t mean that you only have a good taste in financial ventures.
Vulture is reporting that billionairess Megan Ellison, the 25-year-old daughter of Oracle head honcho Larry Ellison, is providing the financial backing for two yet-to-be-produced projects for one Paul Thomas Anderson.
She will be backing THE MASTER, Anderson’s long-talked about take on Scientology that had the likes of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jeremy Renner (who is no longer involved according to this report) attached, and will also finance Anderson’s upcoming adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel, Inherent Vice, once slated to star Robert Downey Jr.
Allegedly, both films are ready, and it remains unknown what will be shooting first. Screenplays are done for both (PTA is currently working on a second draft for INHERENT VICE), so depending on what appears to be the most appealing, PTA apparently has these two films ready and raring to go.
Personally, both films sound really compelling. PTA has proven that he’s able to jump from genre to genre with a ton of ease, so while I think THE MASTER could be the most intellectually compelling, a detective novel adaptation that is INHERENT VICE also sounds really intriguing.
What do you think?
