HE LOVES ME now titled RUBY SPARKS; hitting theaters on July 25
I’ll admit it once again, very few filmmakers have been as oddly overrated as the pair known as Dayton/Faris. Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, best known for their beloved comedy LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, are fine screenwriters, but have yet to truly hit the mark. However, with their long talked about follow up, RUBY SPARKS (formerly known as HE LOVES ME), finally moving forward, that will hopefully change.
Very Aware reports that the film not only has a new title, but that the film will bow on July 25th, through Fox Searchlight. The film is penned by Zoe Kazan, and will star Paul Dano as a writer looking to spark an idea for a follow up novel by imagining a muse, Ruby, who a week later, materializes on his couch.
Now, personally, as an admitted detractor of the pair, hopes aren’t too high for the project, but with a great cast including the likes of Antonio Banderas, Alia Shawkat and Elliot Gould, the film is definitely one to keep an eye on. Kazan also stars as Ruby, so this could shape up to be one of the bigger surprises of 2012. Here’s to hoping.
