Helen Mirren joins Russell Brand in ARTHUR
When I think of great unlikely couples in Hollywood I think of pairs such as Devito and Schwarzenegger, Rogen and Heigl and Robin Williams and that girl from MATILDA. Today THR told us that Helen Mirren and Russell Brand could be the next unlikely couple. Helen Mirren, the picture of British class, is joining Russell Brand, the picture of a British ass, in a remake of ARTHUR.
Russell Brand will be playing the title role of Arthur, a seldom sober ladies’ man who is in line for a large sum of money, should he choose to marry the heiress his parents have chosen for him. Arthur soon falls for a working-class woman and turns to his valet for advice in the ways of love and family politics.
The valet, originally played by John Gielgud (which won him the 1981 Academy Award for best Supporting Actor) will be now reconstructed for Mirren. The movie is slated to start shooting in July with Jason Winer directing. Definitely an interesting combo. We’ll just have to wait and see if it works.
