Lately, when you mention "live show" and "superhero" 'round these parts, people's Spidey sense tends to tingle. But, if the live Batman stage show has anything to do about it, then the concept may not be doomed forever. Granted, this one is in better hands. Hands that don't let people fall 30 feet to the stage, hopefully.

Those more than capable hands belong to the team behind such successful stage shows as Walking With Dinosaurs, along with writer Alan Burnett (BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM, 1990's Batman animated series, Batman Beyond, THE BATMAN SUPERMAN MOVIE: WORLD’S FINEST, the “Deadshot” chapter in BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHT) who has created a completely new and original story for the Caped Crusader's stage debut.

Touted as "a theatrical extravaganza of thrilling stunts, acrobatic acts and illusions" with affordable ticket prices, Batman Live will debut in the UK this summer crossing the pond to the US in the summer of 2012. Check out the official synopsis, along with set design photos after the break.

"Never before has Gotham City, Wayne Manor, the Batcave and Arkham Asylum been brought to life on stage in a more visually exciting way. Join Batman and Robin as they battle their nemesis The Joker and other super-villains such as The Riddler, Catwoman, The Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, set on destroying Gotham City."

Swing on over to the official site for Batman Live for more on the production. Not much in way of content just yet, but there is a cool video about the recording of the score for the show and some images from the trapeze auditions.
