Huge details on Ridley Scott’s ALIEN prequel, PROMETHEUS, revealed; not a prequel, stars Noomi Rapace
Talk about big news.
Thanks to Deadline, we have some massive details about the upcoming ALIEN prequel, which as you’ll learn isn’t really a prequel at all, set to be helmed by Ridley Scott. And by massive, I mean huge.
First, the film will now be titled PROMETHEUS, confirming rumors of that being the films title from months back. The film will be released on March 9, 2012, by Fox. Also, Noomi Rapace, long talked about as the film’s star, has now been confirmed as the film’s first major cast member.
The film has been penned by Damon Lidelof and Scott, based on a previously penned script by Jon Spaihts, who wrote the initial draft of the film.
As far as casting goes, Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron are both looking to take on the other lead female role, named Vickers. Rapace will play Elizabeth Shaw.
Here’s what Scott had to say about the film:
“While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.”
Personally, this all sounds great to me. I’m a huge fan of this franchise, and the idea of Scott returning to sci-fi is massively compelling. I love the title, and the addition of Rapace is definitely an interesting one. She’s a wonderful thespian, and is looking to have one hell of a career here in the States.
