Hugo Weaving Red Skull

Back in March, we started hearing rumblings that go-to bad guy, Hugo Weaving, was very likely to play The Red Skull in FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA. Just like Chris Evans for the role of CAPTAIN AMERICA, Marvel let the news make the rounds on the Internet before making any official announcement. Now we know with complete certainty that Weaving will be taking up the role.

This is great news for the film, as he would be a perfect fit for the role. But of course Marvel has to drop something on us to get us talking. This quote is from Marvel's press release on the news.

"In the early comics, Johann Schmidt was drafted into loyal service of The Third Reich and renamed 'The Red Skull'. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation."

Wait... what? What does this even mean? The film takes place in the past, so what sort of updating is necessary. Maybe they are alluding to THE AVENGERS, where I could very well see Red Skull showing up. I guess we'll find out when we start getting some behind the scene info after production begins.
