INCENDIES director Denis Villeneuve to helm PRISONERS
From Oscar, to now The Black List.
24 Frames is reporting that director Denis Villeneuve, who as the director behind the Oscar nominated Canadian film, INCENDIES, will take on the new film, PRISONERS, currently being set up at WB.
The film was penned by Aaron Guzikowski, and not only was a part of 2009’s Black List, but also has been drawing comparisons to films like MYSTIC RIVER and TAKEN, as it “tells of a working-class Boston father whose young daughter is kidnapped, along with her friend. Frustrated by a local detective's handling of the case, the father takes as a hostage the man he believes committed the crimes.”
Marking his English-language debut, the film has seen numerous names attached to it since it began being set up, including Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, and Leonardo DiCaprio, who was last attached to the film, but has seemingly stepped off of the project. The film will be set to shoot sometime later this year, so this are definitely moving forward for this project.
While I haven’t seen INCENDIES as of this moment, I do definitely like this premise, and knowing that he’s an Oscar nominated filmmaker makes this an even more interesting project.
